We have already covered kitchens and playrooms and now it is time for our wardrobes to get the 30 minute RESET treatment.

Set those 30 minute timers and……GO

1)     The first assumption people usually make is that they need a bigger home or a bigger wardrobe – but in the same breath will say that they have nothing to wear! We think that the dream of a walk-in wardrobe will solve all of our issues! The goal for our spaces is to ensure that it contains the pieces that we love and make us feel good.

2)     Start off by removing items from the bed, floor or anywhere that they have been chucked – even this 5-minute job will make a big difference. My bedroom is quite small so there is no room for a chair so it forces us to put items away each evening. I think if you struggle with items piling on chairs consider removing them – if they are full of clothes they are obviously not being used for their purpose.

3)     Remember this is a quick one so for the next 5-10 minutes let’s do a SPEED DECLUTTER. Make 3 piles:

a.      Keep – Items you love, make you feel good and that you wear a lot!

b.      Donate/Sell – items that you are ready to send to charity shop or sell online.

c.      Seasonal items – so items that you want to keep but aren’t wearing in the current season (more on this pile later!)

4)     Think of this step as supermarket sweep – focus on the quick wins. In 30 minutes you don’t have time for a full reset but by removing some items and making decisions you will already have made progress.

5)     Spend the next 5-10 minutes on making everything look neat – we may not all have the same hangers but by facing them all in the same direction and neatly folding items on shelves (or into baskets as I do for PJs, leggings etc) from an aesthetic perspective you will see less visual clutter and it will be easier to see everything you own.

6)     Now for the last 5 minutes lets deal with those seasonal items – if you (like me) have quite a small or limited wardrobe space you will need to utilise the seasonal rotation approach – so I swap items twice per year – I remove my knitwear and replace with lighter jumpers and/or tee shirts once the weather improves. I also switch up my winter and summer dresses – so I store the items that I don’t need for that season in fabric zip bags up higher in my wardrobe so that the items are not taking up space.

7)     Lastly, I also have another storage bag for HOLIDAY clothes so these are items that I only wear when I am abroad – for some people that’s not a separate category but I definitely own items that wouldn’t see the light of day in Ireland – even in a heatwave!

The main rule I want you to keep in mind for your wardrobe (and the whole families’ wardrobe spaces) is the ONE IN, ONE OUT mindset. If you follow it then you can stay on top of your wardrobe and keep those systems in place. You are in charge of what comes into your home – remember that!

Hoping that you found this helpful – if you ever need more information or would like to get your wardrobe fully reset get in touch through the website, WhatsApp or Instagram and we can set up your initial phone consultation and go from there.

Thanks, Hazel x
