Seasonal Rotation – Rotate, Refresh, Reset

If you are like me and don’t have the biggest wardrobes then a seasonal rotation is imperative! The 3 R’s Rotate, Refresh, Reset.
I love rotating my wardrobe….it’s not for everyone so here’s why I love it:
1) I want my clothes to be able to breathe in the wardrobe – I don’t want everything rammed into the wardrobe getting creased and damaged in the process. I want that my clothes are visible and accessible. This means I will wear them more and have less need to feel like I need to buy new! Win-Win!
2) I am forced every season to ask myself again:
a. Do I love it?
b. Do I need it?
c. Where will it live? (In this case is there sufficient room in my wardrobe for it?)
3) I love a reset in advance of or at the start of a new season. It gets me motivated for what the new season has in store. So, at Spring/Summer time I love to see more colour and whites in my space. Love that it means more time outside and socialising. Similarly, by the time Autumn/Winter comes around I am ready to get cosy and get fully into hibernation season.
It shouldn’t be a daunting exercise just focus on the results and if you don’t feel like tackling the full wardrobe just take it in sections. I wear a lot of dresses. In Autumn/Winter they are knitted, darker colours and in summer brighter and lighter. Tackling just your dresses is a quick win and simple swap. It is a good time to ask ourselves if the dresses coming back out were worn in the prior season? If not maybe set a timeframe and if it doesn’t see the light of day during the Spring/Summer season consider donating or selling.
Another quick swap out is removing the heavier knits in place of the lighter knits and tee-shirts. Most of my other items – denims, gym gear, day to day work all stay the same throughout the year. My coats live in the wardrobe in the office so I rotate them regularly to the hooks downstairs and as all items I follow the one in one out rule of maintaining my organised spaces.
Separate to my seasonal swap out I have my holiday wardrobe stored under my bed – these are items I would only consider wearing on a beach far far away from anyone I know!!
So that said my top 3 tips to follow for seasonal rotation:
1) Declutter as you rotate
2) Store and label appropriately – labelling is key so that you can then know what’s inside the zipper bags or baskets that you are using for storage.
3) If you have a large volume store by category to allow you to have a system that is easy to follow when you want to do the next seasonal reset.

Bonus tip if you’ve gotten this far hold onto those silica gel sachets to throw into the baskets or fabric zip bags you are using to store the clothes. They will help keep moisture away from the environment and help to prevent any damage.
Hope that helps you stay on top of your wardrobe and keep it organised and working well for you over the lovely months ahead.
